Cory Hunter and his companions were driving an Uber on the 91 Freeway in Corona on May 21 around 2:30 a.m. local time. Hunter was then awakened by his passengers while he was still dozing in the car. They asked him to let someone who wanted to vomit out of the vehicle. The Uber driver drove off soon after, leaving the 21-year-old alone on the road. Cory Hunter was struck by a Toyota Corolla while he was walking down the road alone. The driver of the vehicle helped him and he is not charged with any crime.

The impact of the crash, however, causes the death of the victim. Her family later filed a negligence lawsuit against the Uber driver. Hunter “substantially left a completely disoriented person on the side of a busy highway, placing himself in jeopardy,” the lawsuit alleges. According to Salazar, the Uber driver was shocked to learn that Cory Hunter had passed away. The lawyer continued: “It is a terrible situation; there was loss of life. My client has three children: a son, a brother and sister, and a father. He cares deeply for his neighborhood and has a lot of empathy for other people. He doesn’t take it lightly.
