Blackpink’s Jennie Kim openly shared why she apologized for smoking indoors.

In an interview for the cover story with Harper’s BAZAAR On Wednesday, September 18, the K-pop star, 28, addressed the July incident in Italy, in which she used a vape while doing her hair and makeup in a vlog he shared on his YouTube channel.

“What can I do? If Koreans think it’s wrong, I have to make up for it,” she told the publication.

Jennie also said that she understands from her fans’ point of view why she had to say something.

“I seem to understand why you’re upset. It’s culture, it’s history. It’s time. And I can’t go against the weather,” she added.

Back in July, the South Korean singer’s reps issued an apology a week after the action, saying she didn’t mean to offend anyone by vaping indoors.

“We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content posted on the 2nd,” said a statement from OA Entertainment, the record label the singer founded in 2023.

It continued: “Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of smoking indoors and causing inconvenience to staff. Jennie has personally apologized to all staff on site who may have been affected.”

“We apologize to her fans who were disappointed by this incident. We hope to prevent this from happening again in the future. Thank you,” the statement concluded.

Following the incident, a YouTube video titled “Capri Moment with Jennie” was edited to remove footage of Jennie zipping indoors.

The rest of the footage showed her getting ready to make her runway debut at fashion designer Jacquemus’ show in Italy at the time.

Elsewhere in an interview with Harper’s BAZAARJennie opened up about her upcoming solo album, which follows her debut as a solo artist in 2018 with the aptly titled single “Solo” and “You & Me” and “One of the Girls” featuring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp from Idolin which the Blackpink member starred in 2023.

With her record, she said she will bring “herself to the world for the first time.”

“I don’t want to lose their trust,” the “Solo” singer said of her fans. “It’s so important to me to have my own culture and to be loved by everyone in the world.”

About her upcoming LP, Jennie added, “Blackpink Jennie will always be a part of me, but you’ll also be able to experience this new side.”
