Why Heartbreakers Guitarist Mike Campbell Never Spoke to Tom Petty About Late Singer's Heroin Addiction

The issues of abuse of Tom Petty’s 1990s were the battle he had to fight with.

Mike Campbell, who was a leading guitarist for Tom Petty and The Heartbreacs from the beginning of the 1976 band to Petty’s death in 2017, opened his late band in a new memoir and in a new interview, saying that Petty is stubborn when she came to life outside the group.

Campbell (75) said Independent When Petty began to use heroin in the 1990s, he knew that the insination of the intervention would fall on deaf ears.

Petty first discovered her fight with addiction in the book 2015 Petty: biography Author Warren Zanes. Zanes writes in the book that Petty felt that the drugs had played “dirty trick” on it and that he had avoided talking about his use of heroin for years, because he was afraid of examples that he would set up by publishing news to the public.

Petty says in the book that he was a “secret drug addict” and once got angry with Rick Rubin, who he told his children about Petty’s drug use.

“You understand one day,” S —, I lost myself, “he says.” I wanted to stop. But you can’t.

In the end, Petty confided in the doctor, and was hospitalized and went through a detox program that helped him to insert a habit. He attributed the support to his wife Dana to help him go through a difficult period.

Rocker “American Girl” was 66 years old when he died in 2017 from a random drug overdose, including fentanil and oxycodone. His family in a statement stated that he was dealing with numerous health problems, including a broken hip and that “unbearable” pain from the injury “was the cause of his excessive drug use.”

Campbell, who is now a frontman of dirty buttons, described Petty’s death as a “very difficult” independent, and said that “he is still grieving.”

The musician published his book Heartbreaker: memoir On Tuesday, March 18th.
