Career

Wil pitched a perfect game in his sophomore year. After deciding to join the University of South Carolina, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. In 2008, his team won the title of national champion. Royals of Kansas City Wil was selected as a catcher by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft, with the 91st overall pick. Myers settled with the Royals in August 2009, including a $2 million signing bonus. In 99 games for the Class AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals in 2011, he hit .254 with eight home runs and 49 RBIs. He primarily played center in 2012 and was selected to participate in the 2012 Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Futures Game on December 9, 2012. Wil was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. He started the 2013 season with the Durham Bulls of the International League.

Before being called up on June 17, he played center field for the Rays. Myers beat out Detroit infielder Jose Iglesias, fellow reliever Chris Archer and other contenders for the Al’s Rookie of the Year award in 2013. He became the first athlete in history to earn the honor in fewer than 100 games. In 2014, Myers was the primary right fielder for the Rays.
