Will Smith Reveals One Quirky Thing About Bad Boys Costar Martin Lawrence That Annoys Him (Exclusive)

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have been close friends and on-screen collaborators for decades — but they still sometimes get on each other’s nerves.

While attending the premiere of the film in Los Angeles Bad Boys: Ride or Die On Thursday, May 30, two veteran actors opened up to PEOPLE about the little quirks about others that annoy them.

“He likes to exercise all time,” Lawrence, 59, said of Smith.

Seemingly unfazed by the criticism, Smith, 55, replied: “It’s funny. I definitely love…” before sharing his anger about his longtime costar.

“It’s not hate, but there’s one funny joke that always makes me laugh about Martin. He never takes two sips from a bottle of water,” he says. “He drinks the whole bottle of water in one go, every time. It’s like, ‘Yo, man!’ ”

When asked what was the most demanding part of filming Drive or dieSmith and Lawrence replied, “To finish the movie.”

“They shut us down in the middle. A double strike — a writer’s strike, an actor’s strike — right in the middle of the movie,” Smith said, recalling his frustrations with the delay.

“We really, really wanted to finish the movie. We knew we were doing something special, so it was hard trying to keep it all together during that time,” he told PEOPLE.

Ultimately, however, Smith said the forced termination was a blessing in disguise. “As it turned out, that actually helped us — the film matured during that time,” he explained.
