Sushil Chandra is the 24th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India. He was appointed as CEC on April 12, 2021 and assumed office on April 13, 2021. Earlier, he was a member of the three-member panel of the Election Commission.

On February 15, 2019, Sushil Chandra was appointed Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India and on February 18, 2020, he became a member of the Delimitation Commission, UT of Jammu and Kashmir. In June 2019, Sushil was invited as an international election observer to observe the presidential election process in Kazakhstan. He has also attended management training courses from various institutions like the International Monetary Fund, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and Wharton School of Business, Pennsylvania.

- The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were organized and conducted under the supervision of Sushil Chandra, Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa. Sushil Chandra also conducted elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand in 2019. In 2020, Bihar became the first state to hold elections during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Sushil Chandra assumed charge as Chief Election Commissioner on April 13, 2021 and his term will end on May 14, 2022. Assembly elections will be held in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur under Sushil’s watch.
- Sushil Chandra encouraged control over the use of funds during the campaign. He suggested the deployment of special expenditure observers and other agencies to conduct checks during the campaign.
- During the campaigning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Sushil Chandra introduced the use of IT applications to help candidates file their nomination papers online. - Sushil Chandra’s brother-in-law Arvind Goel is being investigated by the Uttar Pradesh government for buying and selling nearly 200 acres of land in Moradabad using black money. The transactions of these lands took place between 2004 and 2017. Besides Arvind, his brother Vipin Goel was also involved and he allegedly bought the lands in the name of 20 shell companies.
