William Lipton to Return to General Hospital for the Holidays: 'So Nostalgic'

William Lipton is back in Port Charles for the holidays!

General Hospital fans will see a familiar face in a series of upcoming episodes with the return of Lipton’s character Cameron Webber, sources close to the production confirmed to PEOPLE. The 21-year-old actor, who was in the popular soap opera from 2018 to 2023, opened TV Insider about appearing on the holiday show.

“I was scrolling through my phone and I got a text from two of my favorite people on the planet, Mark Teschner [casting director] and Frank Valentini [executive producer]asking if I have time later in the year to come back and say hello to mine GH family,” Lipton told the newspaper. “Obviously I was very excited to receive that message and I was happy that they were willing to work with me and my crazy schedule to make it happen.”

After so many years spent on General Hospital set, said the return was “so nostalgic”.

“I mean, from the beginning of my sophomore year in high school until my sophomore year in college, my life was coming to Prospect Studios,” he explained. “It was a really special feeling to see all the people I would see at the front door, who gave me a big hug when I came back. My ID still works, which was a shock.”

General Hospital he’s been there for some immense moments in my life and often they’ve been immense, incredibly important moments in my life, and just to be able to relive that, walk the halls, see all the friendly faces and catch up with all the amazing people, I’m very grateful to experience it again,” he added.

Lipton said it was like he never left, noting that he “wasn’t super nervous” about getting back into the role at first. However, once the cameras started rolling, he admitted that his nerves eased.

“I came on stage to shoot with a lot of confidence,” he said. “I said, ‘Okay, great. We’re back in the groove,’ and then as soon as the rehearsal was over and we were ready to record, I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ My heart kind of dropped. I said, ‘Okay, this is how they do it. I forgot about it.’ It’s just constant recording and there’s no time to let it go. You have to be on it.”

Lipton also shared what it was like to see his old colleagues again, saying he was able to reconnect with Eden McCoy, Becky Herbst and Maurice Benard. Although his guest appearance in the series is not long, he said that he has a chance to remember the role General Hospital played in his career tugged at his heartstrings.

“I really tried to let everyone know what an amazing, positive effect it was General Hospital affected my life,” he said. “It gives me the best memories and the fact that they were not only willing for me to come back, but also excited that I came back meant a lot to me and my family. I love these people so much and I get a little choked up, but they are the best.”

He continued: “I really enjoyed my experience there and the fact that I got to continue it, even for just a small appearance, warms my heart so much.”
