William Shatner Gets a ‘Do-Over’ at Captain Kirk’s Death Scene on Star Trek – Watch!

William Shatner had the opportunity to repeat one of his most memorable performances.

In Thursday’s episode Jimmy Kimmel LiveShatner, 93, revealed why he’s not a fan of Captain Kirk’s death scene in the Star Trek.

“You said in the documentary [You Can Call Me Bill] that in your last appearance as Captain Kirk, you didn’t like your acting or your attitude in the movie,” host Jimmy Kimmel told the actor.

“Well, yeah. It kind of sounds awful when you say it,” Shatner explained before moving on to “rephrase” Kimmel’s interpretation.

“As a serious artist, I am responsible. Captain Kirk dies. So how does one die? How do you die? How do you know when you’re dying?” he asked.

“I think you die the way you live,” he continued. “So Captain Kirk always had these grotesque things going on, ‘Oh, look at that. It’s an animal. I think it’s going to eat me up.’ But without fear, but with joy and love and the possibility to see what is better.”

The couple then watched a scene from 1994 Star Trek Generations which saw Captain Kirk mortally injured while trying to stop Tolian Soran from destroying a planetary system. In a pivotal moment, Kirk utters the line “oh my” as blood flows from his mouth before dying.

“I lost that, ‘Oh, God.’ “I thought they would see death, an old man with hair on his shoulder, and look at it and wonder,” explained Shatner.

He added that he ended up “sounding scared” in the performance and that he “didn’t want to be scared”.

Kimmel then gave him a chance to “do” the scene. The talk show host surrounded him with fake rocks and asked if he wanted to use ketchup as a substitute for blood. He repeated the unforgettable scene for the audience, which you can watch above.
