On Tuesday, Ghanaians woke up to the tragic news of an accident on the Kasoa-Winneba highway. Dawn Tuesday was the last sunrise for 16 people traveling on the Kasoa-Winneba highway. The head-on collision between a passenger bus and a gasoline tanker truck reportedly shocked the entire country as 16 people were killed on the spot while at least 20 are fighting for their lives. A bloody scene unfolded in Kasoa-Winneba Tuesday morning around 5 a.m. none of the injured victims manage to survive the trauma), and 20 people were seriously injured. As far as we know, the serious fatal accident occurred in Gomoa Okyereko at around 4:30 am on Tuesday, when a Yutong commercial bus skidded out of its lane and crashed into a gasoline tanker truck. The reports claimed that the Yutong commercial bus had come from the Ivory Coast and was heading towards Accra, while the tanker was coming in the opposite direction. The bus driver is believed to have drifted out of his lane frequently during the trip. The bodies of the victims were stored in the mortuary department of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital. The fuel tanker truck involved in this accident is said to have been full of gasoline and was heading towards Takoradi as it came from Accra. Winneba DO II fire commander, named Kwesi Hughes, said after hearing eyewitnesses: “So [the tanker driver] entered the lane of the Yutong as at that time the driver of the Yutong also entered his lane”, the investigation is still ongoing and officers are looking into the circumstances of the accident.
