Woman Gets Disinvited From Best Friend’s Wedding After She Told Bride That the Groom Was ‘Into Me First’

A bride is seeking advice after pulling her childhood best friend and best man from her wedding because the woman made multiple comments about how she first dated the groom.

In a post on Reddit’s popular “Am I A——?” subreddit, the 26-year-old bride said her best friend Izzy was “practically raised” with her, even though the two have drifted apart in recent years.

“She was there for me a lot, and so am I, so this situation is difficult,” the bride wrote.

The anonymous bride went on to explain that a few years ago, Izzy went on several dates with her now-fiancé, Jake. In the end, the romance failed when she told him that she was not interested in anything serious.

“Even though I was her best friend, I didn’t really know Jake because she was often asked, but only a few became serious,” explained the bride. “So I knew about her boyfriends, but not necessarily her dates,” writes the bride.

A year later, the bride met and started dating Jake.

“We quickly became good friends,” said the bride. “I talked about him a lot with Izzy, but it wasn’t until I showed her his picture that she recognized him and told me about her dates with him. Friendships were more important to me than any boyfriend at the time so I asked her if it was okay to date him because I really liked him. She said no problem and joked about it ever turning into a relationship, which I took as a joke.”

By the time the bride and Jake got serious and started living together, she and Izzy had “lost touch a bit” – although she never felt animosity towards her longtime friend until Jake popped the question.

“After I got engaged, she became very strange. She was very shocked, she didn’t want to believe it. Then later she told me that I was too young for marriage and if I was safe, but I saw this as just a concern,” said the bride.

Nevertheless, she asked Izzy to be her godmother, together with her sister.

But things took a turn when the bride started posting engagement photos on Instagram. As the rest of the friends sent congratulatory messages, Izzy commented: “You better mention me in your vows because he fell in love with me first, haha”.

“Jake was very uncomfortable, as was I, but I defended her saying it’s just Izzy, she jokes a lot,” the bride wrote in a post on Reddit.

But the harsh comments continued – even in person, when Jake and the bride hosted an after-Christmas dinner with friends.

“That day, Izzy was just telling all the friends and family that Jake was her first date, she let me have him, stuff like that,” the bride continued to explain. “Even after she told her it was wrong, she was joking.”

When the bride told Izzy that she had taken the pranks too far, Izzy said she had gone too far. The bride then told her that she was not coming to the wedding at all.

“I thought a lot after that,” said the bride, adding that those who are close to them now “choose sides based on who they know more.”

“I worry that I’m ruining a lifelong friendship even though I’m wrong. What if it really was just a joke to her and I don’t understand. But she’s not supportive or positive, which I don’t think is fair. I’m confused,” said the bride.

Many commenters on the post agreed with the bride, with one writing: “If I make a joke that doesn’t work, or if someone tells me they’re embarrassed… the first thing I do is apologize.”

Another replied: “I think she put you in a super difficult position. You asked her to stop and she didn’t want to, so she kind of forced you.”

Another commenter took a harsher stance, writing: “Kick her out and leave her forever. She’s jealous and insecure. She sees what you have and either wishes she stayed with him, or wishes she found someone too. It’s disgusting the way makes your special day.”
