Woman in her 20s stabbed to death near railway station as man arrested over ‘murder’

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her twenties was stabbed to death near a train station.

Police were called to Burrell Road, Ipswich, shortly after 7.10pm on August 6 following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers came out and found a woman with serious injuries.

Despite treatment by emergency staff, the 26-year-old woman sadly died a short time later.

A 27-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested in Ipswich this morning.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Center where he will be questioned by detectives.

A police cordon remains at the scene and the road is closed on Burrell Road while the investigation continues.

Chief Superintendent Andy Martin said: “Residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area while our investigation continues.

“Although we are in the early stages of our investigation, we believe the victim and suspect know each other.

“We will continue to urge anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, to contact us.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact the police.

Drivers with dash cams or anyone with CCTV or door cameras in the area are asked to review all footage between 6.30pm and 7.30pm to see anything that may be relevant.
