Woman raped inside bar toilets in ‘incredibly shocking’ early hours attack – with cops releasing CCTV in urgent manhunt

POLICE have released CCTV footage as part of an urgent search after a woman was raped in a bar toilet in an “unbelievably shocking” attack.

Merseyside Police have shared CCTV images of a man they want to speak to as they believe he could help with the investigation.

The woman was allegedly raped by a man in the bathroom of the Chop House pub on Scarisbrick Avenue in Southport between midnight and 2am on Friday 27 December.

The investigation is ongoing, and the victim is being assisted by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “This was an incredibly shocking and terrifying ordeal for the victim.

“Rape and sexual assault can have a huge and long-lasting effect on victims, and our expert team at Unity will provide expert support throughout the investigation and beyond.

“As part of the investigation to establish all the circumstances, locate the offender and bring him to justice, we are releasing CCTV images of a man we believe may be able to assist us.

“We encourage the man or anyone who recognizes him to contact us immediately.

“It’s important that people socializing in Southport and across Merseyside feel safe on nights out, and we hope our high visibility patrols will help with that.

“I would always encourage members of the public to contact our officers and report any suspicious or unusual activity so that we can act immediately.”
