World Anesthesia Day 2023: World Anesthesia Day or National Anesthesia Day is celebrated on October 16 to mark the first successful demonstration of anesthesia with diethyl ether in 1846. Considered one of the most significant events in the history of medicine, the day is held in the operating theater of the Massachusetts General Hospital. This discovery helped patients to undergo surgery without any pain associated with it.
Since 1903, special events have been organized to celebrate this important day. The World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists celebrates World Anesthesia Day every year. More than 134 societies representing anesthesiologists from more than 150 countries participate in this event.
