World Cup 2023 Points Table Today: India and Sri Lanka clashed in the 33rd match of the World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a do-or-die game for Sri Lanka, given their 2-4 record in the World Cup. India, on the other hand, had a dominant 6-match unbeaten run and were 2 points away from a semi-final berth.
India and Sri Lanka faced off at the famous Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai, where India defeated Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final to lift the trophy. The fans expected an exciting match, and that’s what they got. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dilshan Madushanka bowled Indian captain Rohit Sharma by 4 runs, but Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill put on a brilliant 189-run partnership.
Both Kohli and Gill were just a few runs shy of completing their respective centuries. Shreyas Iyer also played an explosive innings to help India post a huge score of 357/8 on the scoreboard.
The Indian bowling side once again proved to be a nightmare for Sri Lanka and reduced the team to 4-4 at the very start. Mohammed Shami was the star of the match, taking 5 wickets (his third five-wicket haul in the World Cup) and winning the Man of the Match award. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 55 runs in 19.4 overs.
India won by 302 runs to move to No. 1 in the points table and also became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals with 14 points.
