Clearly a family man, he often talked about his nan during his time on The X Factor but has now taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal the tragic loss of his dad, also called Chris.

In a candid message, he wrote: “So today my world has fallen apart…

“At 8am this morning my beautiful Dad has suddenly passed away at home.”

“I am totally devastated and broken hearted beyond any words.

“Thank you in advance for any well wishes or messages and I will now be taking a social media break.”

Christopher finished his post with the touching tribute: “Love you Dad with all of my heart.

“REST IN PEACE xx”

He tagged an “RIP dad” image to the message as well as a quote which read: “I was never ready for you to leave.”

During singer Chris’ stint on the show 11 years ago, his dad was quick to reveal his “pride” for the star.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s difficult because he has received some unwarranted and negative comments.

“I know Chris is working so hard for every one of them. He’s learning more and getting better as each week passes with the help of Gary Barlow.

“He’ll always be a winner with us.”

It has been a tough few months for Christopher who nearly died himself earlier this year.

He was rushed to hospital after a Chinese takeaway and explained that a parasite embedded itself into his large intestine and gave him colitis of the colon and large intestine.

The star told how he ate a dinner of crispy duck and pancakes and started feeling ill a little over five hours later.

Meanwhile, the star’s beloved nan Pat sadly passed in 2019.

X Factor fans saw the close bond between Nana Pat and the singer when Chris’s X Factor mentor Gary Barlow visited her home prior to the show final, where he came third.

From Chris’ first audition, where he belted out a cover of Bette Midler hit The Rose, Nana Pat proved the former call centre worker’s biggest fan.
