The puzzle is actually a question from a primary school entrance exam in Hong Kong.

It is designed for children around six years old who need to solve it in less than 20 seconds.

But even though it is intended for six-year-olds, adults can struggle and immediately feel the need to find a sophisticated solution.

The question illustrates a parking lot with six spaces.

There are numbers in five empty spaces, and a car is parked in the sixth, obscuring the number.

The question is “what is the number of the parking space where the car is located?”

Can you solve it? Set the timer for 20 seconds and go,

You might spend a lot of time trying to find the answer, but it’s definitely a lot simpler than you think.

Getting to the bottom of this puzzle requires no algebra or thinking about special strings.

All you have to do is maybe think like a six year old and turn it upside down.

When you turn the page, you will come out with the answer – 87.

The missing number is part of the ascending sequence from 86 to 91.

Many people answered the riddle, thinking the answer would be 78, or 75 – even 45, but if these people had simply turned it upside down, they would have guessed the correct answer immediately.
