The title of his album was not well received by other Memphis rappers, who released a diss song titled “SHAKE SUM (Young Dolph Diss)” (2017) in response to Dolph’s album. This sparked a rivalry among the rappers, and in response, Dolph released a diss song directed at Yo Gotti called “Play Wit Yo’ Bitch.” The feud between the rappers intensified after the release of the 2017 music video “Play Wit Yo’ Bitch,” with Dolph’s car being shot more than 100 times the day after the video was released. However, young Dolph was not injured as his car was bulletproof.
He received widespread media attention for the incident and used the publicity to release the studio album Bulletproof in 2017. That same year, he came under attack again and released an extended episode titled “Niggas Get Shot” in reference to the incident. Every day in 2018.

The site of his death was packed with people for hours after his death, and Memphis city council members called for a curfew to prevent any civil unrest or violence.
