Young Sheldon's Zoe Perry 'Teared Up' After Reading Shocking Scene as Series Nears End

Zoe Perry’s emotions overwhelmed her as she read a pivotal moment in the history of the Cooper family!

Actress — who plays young Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon — told TVLine even though she knew her character’s husband George Cooper (played by Lance Barber) would die of a heart attack, as first established in Big Bang Theoryshe was surprised by her reaction when she read how the family received the news of his death.

“I knew we were getting news in the script, but I hadn’t read it yet to see how it happened,” she recalled reading the script for the episode, cobbled together “A New Home and Traditional Texas Torture.” .”

Some members of the Cooper family were in the midst of planning to move to Houston so George could coach football at the university.

George was late taking family portraits with a photographer when Mary opened the door to her husband’s colleagues who broke the news that George had died of a heart attack while at work off-screen.

“When I started reading, seeing all the plans being made — the excitement, Missy’s excitement — I cried as I read it. The loss was so incredible. It was the loss of the future,” she said, referring to her character’s daughter, Missy (who played by Raegan Revord).

Missy was excited to move to Houston, where she could start over and no longer be compared to her brother Ian Armitage’s Sheldon.

In a joint video interview with Barber, 50, that accompanies the article, Perry said TV Line that actually filming the scene was “intense”.

“I don’t know if I planned it, but I was angry at the news, and even at the threat of the news,” she said of her emotional reaction when her character learned that her husband had died.

Perry — who plays Mary (a role created by her mother Laurie Metcalf in Big Bang Theory) seven seasons later Young Sheldon – she explained that surprising moments, like the wedding of Mary’s son Georgie (Montana Jordan) to his girlfriend Maddy (Emily Osment), made her emotional while filming the sitcom’s final season.

“I was surprised by my own reaction to Georgie’s marriage. I think there may have been a suggestion [in the script] that I may be emotional, but I was truly emotional,” she shared.

Perry added that she remembers being “so relieved” that George watched his son get married in an episode titled “The Real Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet” before he died.

Following the episode, Iain Armitage also shared a tribute to Barber on Instagram following his departure from the series.

“I love you, George! I love you Lance!!!” he shared in the description.
