Young woman stabbed to death outside Crawley train station as man, 26, arrested over ‘murder’ – The Sun

A WOMAN was stabbed to death outside a train station in broad daylight as police made an arrest.

Officers were called to Station Way, in Crawley, West Sussex, at around 7.10am after reports of a man and woman fighting.

Officers from Sussex Police found a woman with stab wounds in a car park near a train station.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the victim was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later, a 26-year-old man suspected of murder was arrested nearby.

He remains in custody.

An ambulance was among the vehicles called to the scene and forensics officers in protective clothing were seen going in and out of the property.

A forensics tent has been set up in a car park near Station Way and a heavy police presence remains in the area.

Locals reported hearing ambulance sirens.

John Powsey, a father who has lived in the area for 44 years, said: “It makes you think it might not be safe to let children out.

“It makes you worried.

“It used to be a nice property, but now it’s getting a bit dangerous.”

Shaun Green, a taxi driver who has lived in Henderson Drive for five years, said: “I knew it was serious when I saw the forensics yesterday but we didn’t know how bad it was for a while.

“We hoped it wasn’t as serious as it looked.

“I’ve never had any problems here. You see it on the news, but you never expect it to happen in the neighborhood.

“It’s shocking. Things like this don’t happen every day.”

Local resident Chris Carr, who has lived on Henderson Drive for almost 50 years, said: “Things like this don’t usually happen on this road, it’s normally quiet.

“You just don’t expect it.”

“You don’t expect this on your doorstep,” added another resident who wished to remain anonymous.

“This is something big, I think the police will be here all day.

“It’s more than just a nuisance.”

Speaking about the forensics, another local – who wished to remain anonymous – said: “They have blue gloves and white suits.

“There are about six forensic scientists there.

“I’ve never seen so many official cars coming down the hill.

“I was born in Dartford and I’ve never seen anything like this.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder following an incident in Crawley this morning.

“Officers were called to Station Way at around 7.10am to reports of an argument between a man and a woman.

“The area was searched and a woman was found in a nearby parking lot with stab wounds. She was treated by an ambulance, but unfortunately she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A wider manhunt was launched to locate the suspect and a 26-year-old man from Crawley was quickly located in Stephenson Road and arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in custody.”

Chief Constable Rachel Swinney added: “This is a tragic incident where a young woman has lost her life and we are working hard to understand exactly what happened.

“The police were able to quickly take the suspect into custody and we are not looking for anyone else at the moment.

“There will now be an increased police presence in the busy area of ​​Crawley while we carry out our investigations. I urge anyone with any concerns to speak to a police officer at the scene.

“Similarly, anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could help is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Venn.”

It is understood police are still trying to trace the woman’s family.

Jim Dickson, MP for Dartford, said: “My thoughts are with the victim and all those affected by the tragic incident in Temple Hill.

“I would like to thank the police for their quick response and encourage anyone with relevant information to contact them.”

Cllr Kelly Grehan, Ward Councilor for Temple Hill, said she was aware of a “very serious incident” and asked people not to speculate about the circumstances.
