Joey King reminds her A family affair costar Zac Efron from Matthew Perry.
In a recent interview for Entertainment WeeklyEfron, 36, compared King’s “physical comedy” to that of his late wife 17 Again actor Matthew Perry.
“When you enter the room when Nicole [Kidman] and I’m hanging out — it’s one of the funniest things ever,” Efron, 24, told King.
He continued: “I think it was some of the most brilliant physical comedy I’ve seen in a long time. It was very funny. Matthew Perry-esque. It was genius.”
“Oh, that’s so nice of you,” King replied. “Oh God.”

Perry died at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023 from the acute effects of the prescription drug ketamine. Since then, Friends alum’s death was the source of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Back in November, Efron told PEOPLE that he would be open to playing Perry in a potential future biopic, after the late actor previously expressed that he wanted Efron in the role.
“I’m honored to hear that he was considering me to play him,” he said Iron Claw said the actor. “We’ll see. It would be an honor to do so.”
Noting that he was “devastated” by the loss of Perry, Efron also shared fond memories of filming their “really cool” 2009 comedy. 17 Again together.
“He was a mentor to me,” Efron told PEOPLE of Perry. “I looked up to him, I learned comedy timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Againit was so surreal for me to look over and see him there, because I learned so much from him, from his whole life.”

Efron is acting A family affair as a movie star named Chris Cole, while King plays Zara, a young woman who works as Chris’ assistant whose mom (Kidman, 57) becomes romantically involved with Chris.
PEOPLE shared the first photos from A family affair back in April, and Efron called the film “funny, romantic and fun.”
Director Richard LaGravenese told PEOPLE at the time that there was a spark between Efron and Kidman in the film was “an answered prayer—something you hope for but can’t plan for.”
“The interplay between Joey and Zac’s sidekick and star characters is so much fun,” he added. “I also love the mother-daughter role reversal where the daughter becomes the disapproving, judgmental, suspicious parent and the mother sneaks up behind her and has an affair that makes her feel like she’s come alive.”
A family affair it’s on Netflix now.
