She grew up wanting to be an actress, and as a teenager she left home to pursue her dream. Zarina saw an advertisement for an acting course and moved to Pune to continue her studies. She graduated from Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. After graduation, she moved to Mumbai to pursue an acting career. However, Raj Kapoor rejected her as he was not satisfied with her appearance and behavior. As a result, Wahab began to pay attention to his appearance and groom himself. After that, she started attending various events and movie parties. When she attended one such party, director Basu Chatterjee spotted her and offered Zarina a film.

Zarina started her acting career in 1974 with the film “Ishq Ishq Ishq”, in which she played the role of Zeenat Aman’s sister. Next, she played the lead role in Basu Chatterjee’s Chit Chor. The film was a huge hit and established Wahab as an actor. She then acted in films like “Gharaonda”, “Agar”, “Zajbaat”, “Sawan Ko Aane Do” and “Raees Zada”. Zarina has also acted in Telugu films like “Gajula Kishtayya”, Malayalam films like “Madanolsavam”, Kannada films like “Ee Bandha Anubandha” and Tamil films like “Vishwaroopam” . Wahab has also appeared in Bollywood films such as “My Name is Khan”, “Agneepath”, “I, Me, aur Main”, “Dil Dhadakne Do”.
