Zayn Malik is pausing his tour plans following the death of his One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
On Saturday, October 19, Malik, 31, announced in a post on his Instagram Stories that the US leg of his Stairway to the Sky tour was being put on hold following Payne’s death on October 16 at the age of 31.
“Due to the heartbreaking loss I experienced this week, I have made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY tour,” Malik began about the shows that were set to begin on October 23rd.
“The dates are moving for January and I will announce them as soon as everything is ready in the next few days. Your tickets will be valid for the new dates,” he added.
Malik concluded, “I love you all and thank you for your understanding.”

Louis Tomlinson mourns late bandmate Liam Payne: ‘I’d love to share the stage with you again, but it wasn’t to be’
Payne died earlier this week after falling several floors at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Before his death, Payne was “trashing” his hotel room, according to a 911 call made by hotel staff. A preliminary autopsy report says he died of “internal and external” bleeding.

Malik, along with fellow One Direction members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, released a joint statement on October 17 reacting to Payne’s death.
“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s death,” the statement began. “In time, and when everyone is able, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved very much.”
The group added: “We will cherish the memories we shared with him forever. For now our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him with us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. Louis , Zayn, Niall and Harry.”

Malik also posted his own Instagram tribute to Payne on October 17.
“I lost my brother when you left us and I can’t explain what I would give to hug you one last time and say goodbye to you and tell you that I loved and respected you very much,” he wrote, in part.
“I will forever cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart, there are no words to justify or explain how I feel right now, except that I am completely devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now, you are well, at peace and know how much you are loved,” Malik continued.
