Blink twicewhich also stars Naomi Ackie, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Alia Shawkat and more, was previously called Pussy Islandbut Kravitz changed his name before the release.

She said Entertainment Weekly in July, “It was clear to me that ‘p—y’ was a word that we, our society, were not yet ready to accept.”

“There were a lot of roadblocks, whether the MPAA didn’t want to put it on a poster, or a billboard, or a newsstand; theaters didn’t want to put it on the map,” she explained.

In addition, women seemed to be turned away from the film because of the previous title, Kravitz told the paper.

“Interestingly,” she said, “after research, women were offended by the word, and women saw the title and said, ‘I don’t want to see that movie,’ which is part of why I wanted to try and use the word, which is trying to reclaim the word, and not make it something we’re so uncomfortable using.”

Kravitz added, “But we’re not there yet. And I think that’s something I have a responsibility as a filmmaker to listen to. I care about people seeing the film and how people feel.”

“I have so much I can’t wait to share, as this project is near and dear to my heart in more ways than I can count,” he wrote on Instagram in April.
