Zoravar Singh Sandhu started shooting when he was eleven years old. He has participated in many national and international shooting championships. Sandhu said in an interview that he became familiar with shooting at a young age and switched from skeet shooting to clay pigeon shooting at the suggestion of his family. He said,
I started shooting when I was five years old. I started shooting skeet when I was 11 years old. Later, I turned to clay pigeon shooting after my father and grandfather asked me to change projects for better prospects. ”
In 2014, Sandhu won the gold medal in the men’s flying saucer event at the National Games held in Patiala. After a long gap, in 2022, he participated in the men’s UFO finals of the National Games in Gujarat and won a silver medal in shooting. In January 2023, Sandhu topped the national shotgun selection trials held at the New Moti Bagh Gun Club in Patiala. In October 2023, Zorawar Singh Sandhu represented India in the 19th Asian Games (2022) held in Hangzhou, China. He won the shooting gold medal in the men’s clay pigeon event along with teammates Kynan Chenai and Prithviraj Toindaman.
India won the Asian Games gold medal with 361 gold medals, Kuwait won the silver medal with 359 points and China won the bronze medal with 354 points. In the skeet team competition held at the shotgun range, the cumulative scores of shooters from each country in the qualifying rounds will be considered for awarding medals; Zoravar Singh ranked in this qualifying round with a score of 120/125 second. Zorawal then finished fifth in the individual final with a score of 23/30.
