A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed in Omaha, Nebraska, on Thanksgiving Day, and his father was arrested.

Kendrick was transported by the Omaha Fire Department to a nearby hospital, Nebraska Medicine. He died in the hospital.

Estranged husband killed mother of five children: ‘She gave him so many chances’
According to the Omaha World-Herald, investigators are not yet sure what happened, but the shooting may have occurred when a car alarm went off near the McDonalds’ home.
“We know that the car alarm allegedly went off and for whatever reason the suspect/father went outside to maybe investigate,” Omaha Police Capt. Jeremy Christensen said, according to the Omaha release.
“We’re not 100 percent sure about that, but we’re getting information that the car alarm went off,” he continued. “Exactly what happened and why it happened, we’re still trying to piece that together through our investigation.”

On Friday, Christensen said police were unsure if Kendrick’s mother was present and if Will mistook the 10-year-old for a carjacker.
“We’re still trying to figure out the details of that through the investigation,” he told the Omaha World-Herald.
Christensen, however, said a gun was found at the scene of the shooting and discovered there were other children in the home.
However, he declined to say how many times the child was shot, the newspaper reported.

According to Douglas County District Attorney Don Kleine, prosecutors could file charges as early as Sunday, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
“Obviously it’s very tragic. But we have to determine if [Will] was justified in doing what he did,” Kleine said, according to the newspaper.
And, “at this point, it doesn’t seem like it was warranted to fire,” according to Kleine.
“You hear this and you say, ‘Oh no, that’s just horrible,'” the lawyer added. “A death of a little boy like this. It’s just senseless.”
