A little girl went to extreme measures to save her precious guinea pig, fighting off a snake that tried to eat the pet rodent.
Australian radio host Kip Wightman took to social media to share a video of his niece Rosie protecting her guinea pig in her backyard from the giant reptile, which has gone viral online with more than 8,800 views.
In a video shared by Storyful, 12-year-old Rosie goes to the corner behind her house looking for her pet guinea pig MaxiBon. He seems to spot his pet and discovers the guinea pig in the jaws of a huge snake.
The girl bravely bends down, grabs the snake’s tail and, in order to save her guinea pig, starts spinning the reptile in circles trying to get the snake to drop her pet.
Rosie told 7News Australia she acted on pure instinct. “I didn’t even think about it. I just thought, ‘grab the snake, grab the snake’.”

The girl’s father, Luke Wightman, said he was alerted to the situation after hearing Rosie “screaming at the top of her voice”. He went outside to find his daughter “holding on [the snake] like a hammer thrower.” Wightman then came to the rescue and together they freed MaxiBon and threw the snake over their garden wall, Storyful reports.
“I realized that it was not ideal [for the neighbors]and I chased after him and watched him slide down unharmed even though he was a little dizzy,” Wightman told the Australian paper.

He described the snake to Storyful as a 2.5-meter python, but the exact species of the reptile remains unclear.
Wightman said “Rosie is doing great” after the incident, adding that she is “just very relieved that MaxiBon survived.” As for MaxiBon, he was “also fine as if nothing had happened” and was “cooling off with his brother Yochi”.
