50 Cent Avoids Criminal Charge for Mic-Throwing Case: Report

50 Cent avoided criminal charges after throwing a microphone off stage, allegedly hitting a concertgoer, TMZ reports.

At a show at the Crypto.com Arena in August, fans captured footage of the rapper, 48, throwing two malfunctioning microphones from the stage to a crew near the audience. The footage does not show where the microphones fell, but photos have emerged showing the alleged victim, POWER 106 radio host Bryhana Monegain.

After the incident, Monegain received multiple lacerations on his head and face and filed a police report. The case was then presented as a felony to the LA District Attorney. However, the prosecution then sent the case to the LA City Attorney’s office, TMZ reports.

Since then, not a single criminal complaint has been filed against the rapper, the City State Attorney’s Office said.

Representatives for 50 Cent and the LA DA’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional information on Friday.

Despite the current state of the case, it will remain open for one year from the date of the August 30 incident. There is still the possibility that 50 Cent could face criminal charges if there are any further incidents between the rapper and Bryhana.

During the performance, the “In da Club” artist was reportedly handed a single microphone that produced no sound while his guest, rapper YG, performed. He threw the microphone to the left of the stage.

The hip-hop star (real name Curtis James Jackson III) was then given another microphone that turned out to be faulty. He then threw the second microphone off the stage with what seemed to be more force and farther from the edge of the stage than the first microphone.

After the “Many Men” rapper got a working microphone, he continued his performance and joined YG, 33, at center stage.

After the incident, a source told PEOPLE, “This is an unfortunate isolated incident where someone was in a restricted area where they shouldn’t have been.”

At the time of the incident, 50 Cent’s lawyer Scott Leemon denied that it was intentional.

“Let’s be very clear, as I told the LAPD this afternoon, my client Curtis would never intentionally hit anyone with a microphone,” Leemon told PEOPLE in a statement. “Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.”
