75 Endangered and Extremely Rare Snakes Released into Kisatchie National Forest by Fort Worth Zoo

A large number of snakes have found a new home thanks to the Forth Worth Zoo.

Earlier this month, the zoo released 75 Louisiana pine snakes into Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest, according to a social media post from the facility.

With the move, the zoo released the most snakes at one time since the protection program began in 2015, the zoo said.

“This marks a major conservation milestone, as Louisiana pine snakes are endangered and one of the rarest snakes in North America,” the organization wrote on Facebook.

The reptiles that were released on May 9 hatched last year. They were raised in a zoo until they could survive on their own in the wild, NBC 5 reported.

The Fort Worth Zoo is one of only four places in North America that host the Louisiana pine snake species.

“Congratulations to our ectotherms team on this impressive achievement!” the Fort Worth Zoo wrote in a social media post.
