A 14-year-old high school basketball player collapsed and died during a game Thursday in Momence, Ill., reports DailyCBS 2 News and WGN 9.
Amari Crite, a freshman at Momence High School, collapsed on the field while walking toward the defensive end of the field, reports Daily. The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office said the cause of death is pending.
As of Friday morning, Amari’s family created a GoFundMe page, and more than 440 donations have raised $27,940, surpassing the family’s $15,000 goal.
The GoFundMe description read: “As some, if not all, of you may know, our precious little girl passed away last night January 25th when she collapsed at her basketball game. We ask everyone and anyone to help us give her the right home she deserves. No amount is too small, no amount is too much. And most of all, we need prayer!”
