Actor Tom Hiddleston discusses ending Loki Season 2 and his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the death of the Season 1 finale “The Remaining Life,” Season 2 reveals the dire consequences of the Time Variance Administration (TVA) not controlling the timeline. After multiple attempts to save branch timelines, TVA, and his friends, the God of Mischief realizes that his "glorious purpose“At that time Loki End of Season 2. After making the ultimate sacrifice and becoming the god of story, there’s speculation that Loki’s redemption arc is now complete, which could also signal Hiddleston’s curtain call from the Marvel Universe.
In a recent conversation with Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show, Hiddleston shares how Loki The Season 2 finale represents a full-circle moment. He explained that while the finale neatly connected his stories from seasons one and two, it also concluded that “6 movies, 12 episodes, 14 years” of his life in the Marvel Universe. Read his full comments below:
“If you haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say that it all comes full circle. This is the finale of season two. This is also the finale of seasons one and two. It was also the end of 6 movies, 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast. I’m 42 years old now. It’s a journey. I do think there will be echoes and resonances of every version of Loki I’ve played in the finale. I think, without spoiling anything, the episode is called “Glorious Purpose.” In the first Avengers movie, Loki looked down upon Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury and said, “I am Loki of Asgard, and I have an honorable mission.” Arrogant, arrogant, and arrogant, he will take over the world. Then things didn’t go so well for him. We’ve all seen Infinity War, where we came face to face with Thanos, but it wasn’t all that glorious. At the beginning of season 1, Morbius was played by Owen Wilson, and he was the best ever. He basically shows Loki that glorious purpose is a fallacy and he gets a second chance. I think the most exciting thing about the show is seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose that we can all relate to. I think we all wonder if we have control over our own stories. Can a leopard change its spots? Do we have free will?“
Will Loki and Tom Hiddleston return after the Season 2 finale?
While Hiddleston didn’t explicitly confirm his exit from the Marvel Universe, his comments hinted that after more than 12 years playing Loki, his time playing Loki is likely over.Hiddleston made his film debut as Odin’s adopted son Loki in the Phase One film Thor, the actor cemented his status as a jealous, power-hungry villain. After serving as the main villain the Avengershis character development has undergone a huge change Thor: The Dark Worldin which he slowly evolved into Thor and Asgard’s helper. Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Loki Continuing the depth of his complex character development, the film quickly gained critical acclaim from Marvel audiences for showcasing the character’s growth and anti-heroism.
While Hiddleston’s final stand seemed to be hinted at in the Season 2 finale, the conclusion could also hint at the story’s connection to Avengers: Secret Wars. Loki’s actions likely laid the key foundation for developing the conflicts that will plague the multiverse saga, including the anticipated wrath of the next big bad, Kang the Conqueror. So this still leaves the door open for Hiddleston to make one final appearance, as Loki appears to be one of the few characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who understands the multiverse.
While it’s still uncertain whether Hiddleston will face retaliation in the future, executive producer Kevin White touched on the following possibilities: Loki Season 3 said: “Season 2 is about closing that book, but there are so many other books on the shelves about this character and this world“. So, despite the show’s tragic but poetic ending, there’s optimism that Loki will return in some form in the future.
