AM Turaz is an Indian poet, lyricist, dialogue writer, screenwriter and director who has appeared in over 30 films and performed in various poetry programmes. He is known for using Urdu words in his lyrics as well as themes surrounding love.

AM Turaz aka Aas Muhammad Turaz aka Turaz was born in Sambaleheda village near Miranpur town in Muzaffarpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India. According to one source, he was born on Thursday, September 19, 1974 (age 48; as of 2022), and according to another source, he was born on Sunday, September 19, 1982 (age 40; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Virgo. He learned Urdu at home because his family spoke Urdu. He has been interested in writing since he was a teenager and also liked the charm of movies, so he moved to Mumbai in 2002 to start a writing career.

In 2005, he shot his first film Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana (2006) and his debut song was Kehta Hai Yeh Mera Dil. He later composed many songs for several hit movies including Guzaarish (2010), Chakravyuh (2012), Bajirao Mastani (2015), Padmaavat (2018), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022) and Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023). Some of his famous songs include Kabhi Jo Badal Barse, Ghoomar, Binte Dil, Khalibali, Bhula Diya and Jab Saiyaan.

Apart from Bollywood, he has also participated in various poetry shows (Mushairas) in different countries around the world. In 2014, his poetry was published in the book Ramh.

In 2016, he made his debut as a story writer with the movie “Direct Ishq”, and in 2021, he made his debut as a web drama story writer with the Hotstar web drama “Empire”. In 2016, he made his debut as a dialogue writer in the film “1:13:7 Ek Tera Saath”.

In 2012, he composed a song titled Mehngai in the film Chakravyuh, which contained the names of famous Indian industrialists and business brands such as Birla, Tata and Bata. The lyrics of the song are “Birla Ho Ya Tata Ambani Ho Ya Bata, Apne Apne Chakar Mein Desh Ko Hai Kata Birla Ho Ya Tata Ambani Ho Ya Bata Apne Apne Chakar Mein Desh Ko Hai Kata”. The case was filed before the Delhi High Court to stop the playing of the song; however, the court allowed the song to be played with a disclaimer.
