A man finds an amazing bug that is almost too awesome to be true

One day, while walking around a property in Costa Rica, Michael Farmer noticed something he couldn’t believe.

There, on the leaves of a guava tree, was what looked like a small metal object – glittering in the sun like a shiny piece of chrome. But then it started to escalate.

It is actually a living organism. It turns out Farmer just stumbled across one of the world’s most venomous beetles, Chrysina limbata, a species known for its silver reflective shell.

When Farmer picked up the bug, it stopped crawling and pretended to be dead, allowing him to see better.

Farmer told The Dodo: “I was amazed at how beautiful it was. “[I’ve] I’ve never seen anything like it.”

A farmer took pictures of this bug, which seems too good to be true.”[It] like a mirror. He said: “The perfect, spotless reflection in the bug. Truly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”

The farmer later discovered that these beetles were indeed rare. Although found more commonly in the area, this species has been severely impacted by habitat loss – both by fishing and sale to collectors.

The Farmer bug she found that day escaped that sad fate.

“I don’t believe in selling living things like that,” Farmer said. “I put it back in the tree and it quickly flew away.”

However, the memory remained in him. This is the first time the farmer has encountered such a bee, but he hopes it won’t be the last.

“I’m not a fan of insects,” he said. “[But] I’m still afraid of it. I can’t wait to see the second one.”
