Adam Devine Jokes That His Recent Weight Loss Was Inspired in Case 'Marvel Calls' with a Superhero Offer (Exclusive)

Adam Devine is ready to get dressed!

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actor and comedian, 41, jokes that his recent weight loss was inspired by the prospect of one day being needed for a superhero movie.

“I feel like I’m in such a good rhythm this year that I just want to stay on it,” Devine says of the weight loss. “And I like where I am.”

“I’m not trying to get super skinny,” he continues. “I just want to be in a place where I can answer if Marvel calls.”

“If my phone rings and James Gunn says, ‘Hey, we’re ready to bring you to the DC Universe,’ I might say, ‘Hey, give me a few months and I’ll be there,'” adds the star, who has partnered with MyFitnessPal — an all-in-one app for monitoring food and health.

Adam Devine recalls weight gain during wife Chloe Bridges’ pregnancy: ‘I won’t say it was a competition, but I won’ (Exclusive)

Devine told PEOPLE that he gained “the weight of sympathy” when his wife Chloe Bridges was pregnant with their first child, son Beau, who was later born in February 2024.

“For me, it was the right thing to do,” he says of the idea, which is also known as Couvade syndrome. “I just got high and felt like I didn’t look like myself. I’d look in the mirror and it was like I was a cartoon version of myself.”

“Chloe, she ate for two and made a human baby. I didn’t make a human baby, but it looked like I did,” continues the father of one of them. “I gained more weight than her – I gained 28 pounds, I think she gained about 26 pounds.”

The Pitch Perfect star adds that gaining weight during Chloe’s pregnancy affected how he looked. “I just wanted to feel like myself again,” he explains.

“I’ve always eaten well and I’ve always exercised, but it was just the amount that I was eating and I didn’t know that some things were bad for me,” says Devine.
