A MAN has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kidnap a three-year-old girl.
The child was with an older relative when a man allegedly tried to pick her up in front of the house and run away on Thursday around 5:15 p.m.
However, the child’s mother prevented him, the police said.
The girl was not injured during the “isolated incident” in Leicester Street, Wolverhampton.
It is believed the man left in the direction of Harrow Street.
Yesterday, West Midlands Police launched an appeal and released a photograph of the man.
Now the police officers in the city have detained a 37-year-old man.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a girl and is in custody for questioning.
Det Insp Nicola Pestel, from Wolverhampton CID, said: “We have had officers from all our local teams working diligently on this investigation.
“We have been following numerous lines of investigation and this arrest is a significant step forward.
“We fully understand the concern this will cause, but we believe this is an isolated incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 3766 of January 9.
