dispute
- In October 2010, Aditya became the center of attention when he staged a protest outside Mumbai University. He was protesting against a book included in the university’s syllabus which he claimed contained insulting language about Indian culture. He said Rossington Mistry’s book “Such a Long Diary” had abusive language against Indian culture and students should not be forced to read such a book. He also said he had no problem with the book being sold on the open market, but he did not want it included in the university’s syllabus. Eventually, the vice-chancellor of the university had to remove the book from the syllabus. However, it was later revealed that when Aditya protested the book, he had never read it and was simply acting on what he had heard about it.
- In 2014, before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Aditya’s remarks on the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece “Saamna” were criticized by many sections of society. He said, “Gujarati and other non-Maratha traders have squeezed a lot of money out of Mumbai, using it as an ‘attractive whore’ to build their Dwarkas (city of gold).” However, Adi Ya later had to apologize for her remarks.
- On October 12, 2015, Shiv Sena workers attacked scholar and columnist Sudheendra Kulkarni before a book launch and covered his face with ink. Kulkarni was on his way to attend a book launch hosted by former Pakistani minister Khurshid Kasuri. Aditya Thackeray defended the act of Shiv Sena workers and said the attack was non-violent, democratic and historic and anyone who supports anti-national elements will be treated as such. Several journalists criticized his remarks and said what happened in Kulkarni was completely unjustified.
