Aerosmith Postpones Farewell Tour Dates After ‘Heartbroken’ Steven Tyler Suffers Vocal Cord Damage

Aerosmith fans in six cities will have to wait longer to say goodbye to the band after lead singer Steven Tyler suffered a damaged vocal cord over the weekend, forcing the group to postpone its remaining September concerts.

“I am heartbroken to say that I have received strict medical orders not to sing for the next thirty days,” Tyler, 75, said in a statement released by the band on Monday. “I damaged my vocal cords during Saturday’s performance which led to bleeding afterwards. We will have to postpone a few dates so we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”

The band “Dream On” has postponed the next six concerts, all of which have been moved to January and February 2024. They will play in Detroit on January 29; Chicago on February 14; Washington, DC February 17; Toronto on February 21; Raleigh, North Carolina on February 26; and Cleveland on February 29.

The news comes just three dates into Aerosmith’s Peace Out: The Farewell Tour, which kicked off Sept. 2 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Bad Boys from Boston played a string of hits that included “Love in an Elevator,” “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way.” ” They also paid tribute to Fleetwood Mac with a cover of “Stop Messin’ Around”.

The concert marked the band’s 40th concert in Philadelphia. Original band members Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford joined Tyler. John Douglas replaced original drummer Joey Kramer behind the kit. Kramer took a “temporary leave” from the band in March 2022, sitting in on the band’s Deuces Are Wild residency in Las Vegas. His wife Linda died at the age of 55 in June 2022.

In May 2022, the band put the Las Vegas residency on hold as Tyler entered a treatment program for a relapse following foot surgery to prepare for the band’s return to the stage.

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has been working on his sobriety for years,” the band announced in a statement last year. “After having foot surgery to prepare for the stage and needing pain relief during the process, his illness recently returned and he voluntarily entered a treatment program to focus on his health and recovery.”

Aerosmith played more shows in Las Vegas in September 2022, but plans to perform in December fell through due to Tyler’s health.

“Per my doctor’s advice, I am taking more time off,” Tyler said in a December statement. “There’s nowhere we’d rather be than on stage surrounded by the biggest fans in the world.”
