Airfryers Sold at Walmart, Target and Kohl’s Recalled After Reports of Burns

The popular cooking appliance was recalled in the middle of the holiday season.

Empower Brands on Thursday recalled its PowerXL DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 Vortex dual-basket air fryers. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that about 319,00 units were recalled after they posed a burn hazard, as the plastic connector used to join the two food baskets can break during use.

There have been 41 reports of fryers breaking during use, including three cases of burns. The agency said the units were sold in black and cinnamon colors between August 2021 and October 2023 at popular retailers such as Target, Walmart and Kohl’s and on their websites, priced between $60 and $190 (depending on the model ).

Consumers are asked to stop using the fryers and contact Empower Brands for a full refund by calling toll-free at 866-704-9370 or online. Consumers can find out more information by clicking on the “Important Safety Recall Notice” on the Power XL product website.

The company’s website for the recall states that “the models are unique in that you can use them as two separate baskets or as one combined basket.” It also advises that consumers can tell if their fryer is affected by looking at the label “located on the bottom of the unit or the label attached to the power cord.”

To help consumers determine if their fryer is recalled, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission also includes detailed descriptions of the units in its notice.

According to the agency, the 10-liter DUAF-10 model “is about 17 inches long, 16 inches wide and 12 1/2 inches high, and weighs about 14 1/2 pounds.” The 9-liter model DUAF-005″ is about 14 inches long, 13 inches wide and 15 inches high and weighs about 14 pounds.” Both products also feature a silver “PowerXL” badge on the front.

PowerXL line account included x, officially known as Twitter, shared an advisory from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. “In cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), we are voluntarily recalling the PowerXL™ models DUAF-005 and DUAF-10,” the announcement said.
