Ajay Singh is an Indian businessman, sports official and bureaucrat. He is also a prominent investor in several Indian public and private companies. In 2005, he co-founded SpiceJet, India’s second largest airline. He left SpiceJet in 2010 and rejoined the company in February 2015 as chief shareholder, chairman and managing director. In 1996, the then Delhi Transport Minister Rajendra Gupta appointed Ajay Singh to the board of directors of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). It is understood that under the leadership and management of Ajay Singh, DTC’s fleet has increased from 300 buses to 6,000 buses in just two years. In 1998, he was appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the then Minister of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Pramod Mahajan. Ajay Singh has been mandated to revamp and reformulate the functioning and management of ‘Doordarshan’. SpiceJet

Ajay Singh co-founded SpiceJet with Bhupendra Kansagra in 2005, acquired the grounded ModiLuft Airlines and renamed it SpiceJet. It is said that SpiceJet sold a total of 38,000 tickets on the first day of operation, with a passenger load factor of more than 90%. When Ajay Singh exited in 2010, SpiceJet had a capital of over INR 8 billion. SpiceJet was taken over by Sun Group chairman and managing director Kalanithi Maran. However; by 2015, SpiceJet was incurring huge losses due to company mismanagement and out-of-control expenses. The World Economic Forum appointed him to chair the Aviation, Travel and Tourism (ATT) Governors’ Meeting in January 2019, making him the first Indian to chair the meeting. In the same year, IATA appointed him to its Board of Governors. Thereafter, he was nominated as Chairman, National Civil Aviation Committee, Confederation of Indian Industry and Chairman, India Initiative, World Travel and Tourism Council. Later, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology appointed him as a consultant to assist the government in formulating the National Telecommunication Policy and Information Technology Bill. In January 2021, the Boxing Federation of India reappointed him as president and the Indian Olympic Association appointed him as vice-president.

Ajay Singh was a key organizer of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s propaganda campaigns during the 2004 and 2014 Indian general elections. He coined the slogan “Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar” during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He is often referred to as Chhota Ambani or Narendra Modi’s Chhota Adani by the BJP opposition. Some of the BJP’s political ads often feature Ajay Singh. He is considered the right-hand man of the BJP. SpiceJet and Bombardier

In 2017, Ajay Singh signed an agreement with the United States and SpiceJet ordered 205 Boeing aircraft, one of the largest companies in the history of the United States. The deal was finalized when Donald Trump was US President, who mentioned at a media conference that this mega deal with SpiceJet India will create thousands of jobs in the US. Later, SpiceJet followed Boeing’s order with an order for 50 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, and this order is considered to be the single largest order for this aircraft in Bombardier’s history.

Controversy arose on July 11, 2022, when a complainant named Amit Arora complained that he cheated Amit Arora on the pretext of allotment of Spicejet shares. In his complaint, Amit Arora stated that Ajay Singh gave him a fake depositary order (DIS) worth Rs 10 lakh in exchange for giving Ajay Singh Some services provided by Ajay Singh. A case was registered against Ajay Singh under Sections 406, 409, 415, 417, 418 and 420 of the IPC soon after a complaint was lodged at Sushant Lok police station in New Delhi. On July 12, 2022, SpiceJet issued a legal notice in the media stating that the complaint against Ajay Singh was completely false and that the company would file a defamation complaint against Amit Arora. In 2018, he won the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Award. In the same year, he received the Indian Aviation Excellence Award from the CAPA Chairman. In 2017, he won the Ernst & Young Indian Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Business Transformation category.
