Ajit Pawar is a politician from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of India. He is an MLA from Maharashtra and the nephew of Sharad Pawar.

Ajit Pawar was born on Wednesday, July 22, 1959 in Deolali Pravara, Bombay State, India (64 years old as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Cancer. His full name is Ajit Anantrao Pawar. He attended Maharashtra Education Society High School, Baramati, Maharashtra. He holds a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from the Maharashtra State Board and is also a college dropout. He moved to Bombay to study, but his father died while he was in college, so he had to give up his studies and move back home to take care of his family.

His father Anantrao Pawar worked for famous film producer V. Shantaram at “Rajkamal Studios” in Mumbai. His mother’s name is unknown. The names of his grandparents are Govind Pawar and Sharda Pawar. Ajit Pawar is married to Sunetra Pawar, the daughter of former Maharashtra minister Padamsinh Bajirao Patil. They have two sons, Jay Pawar and Parth Pawar. Jay is a businessman while Parth is a politician who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mawar constituency in Maharashtra but lost by a huge margin of 2,15,193 votes.

Ajit Pawar became active in politics in 1982 after he was elected to the board of directors of a cooperative sugar factory in Pune. In 1991, he was first elected to the Lok Sabha from the Baramati constituency in Maharashtra. However, when Sharad Pawar was appointed defense minister in PV Narasimha Rao’s government, he was not yet an MP and within six months, he had to become an MP. So, Ajit gave up the seat to Sharad Pawar.

He retained his seat and was re-elected from the same district in 1995, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019. Ajit is popularly known as dada (elder brother) among his relatives and followers. He is popular among the youth wing of the NCP, who often shout slogans of “Ekach Dada Ajit Dada” in his honor. He won the Baramati Assembly seat in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections by polling 1,66,000 votes; this was the highest in the state. In 2022, he became the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. On July 2, 2023, he joined the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government and was sworn in as deputy chief minister for the fifth time. - In August 2002, the then water resources minister allegedly leased 141.15 hectares (348.8 acres) of land from the Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation (MKVDC) to Lavasa, which is where Sala De Pavar’s dream project.
