Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician. He is the president of the Samajwadi Party (SP). He is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Akhilesh is the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

His father Mulayam Singh Yadav is a famous Indian politician. He has served as a Union Minister and the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh Yadav is also the founder of the Samajwadi Party (SP). His mother Malti Devi suffered complications while giving birth to Akhilesh, leaving her in a vegetative state. Akhilesh was raised by his grandparents. Because my father was busy with politics, my mother became a vegetable. His mother died in 2003.
In February 2007, his father Mulayam Singh Yadav married Sadhna Gupta. Sadhna Gupta passed away on July 9, 2022, at a private hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana, after a long illness. Akhilesh has a stepbrother, Prateek Yadav. Prateik was responsible for land ownership and transactions of the Yadav family. Prateik’s husband Aparna Yadav is a politician.

Profession
In 2000, Akhilesh Yadav contested the Lok Sabha by-election in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. He won the election and was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha at the age of 27. He was appointed to the Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution Committee. In 2004, he participated in the general election and was elected as a member of Congress for a second term. He is a member of various committees such as Government Department Computers, Technology, Environment and Forests and Urban Development Committees. In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the third time.
On March 10, 2012, Akhilesh was appointed leader of the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh was appointed Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 15, 2012; after the Samajwadi Party won the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, he became the youngest Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at the age of 38.
In May 2012, he resigned from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat to serve as UP Chief Minister and became a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. In 2017, the SP formed an alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC). Akhilesh and Rahul Gandhi have announced that they will contest the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections together in an alliance that will be led by Akhilesh Yadav. They won only 54 seats and lost the election to the BJP.
On March 11, 2017, Akhilesh submitted his resignation to Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik. Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Akhilesh was elected leader of the opposition. On January 12, 2019, Akhilesh and Mayawati announced that the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Samajwadi Party (BSP) would jointly contest the 2019 general elections.
In total, they won only 15 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. On June 11, 2019, Mayawati announced that the BSP would terminate its alliance with the SP in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She said the Philippine Socialist Party could win more seats than the Socialist Party and would contest the parliamentary elections independently. Akhilesh Yadav was elected as MP from Azamgarh Lok constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 general elections.
He won the Kajhar seat in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections; his winning margin was over 67,504 votes. On March 22, 2022, he resigned as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Kajhar after being elected; he became an MLA for the first time. Akhilesh Yadav was announced as Samajwadi Party President for the third time at the Samajwadi Party National Convention held at Ramabai Ambedkar Stadium in Lucknow on September 29, 2022. He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha seat from Kannauj seat and defeated his nearest rival, BJP MP Subrata Pathak, by a margin of 1.70 lakh votes. On June 12, 2024, he resigned from the Khar seat as MP and took up the post of Kanauj MP.

- In 2017, Akhilesh was embroiled in a family feud with his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav. Shivpal claimed there was a conspiracy to expel him from the party and he also threatened to quit. Mulayam Singh warned Akhilesh that the party will split if Shivpal quits. Akhilesh took this as an insult. Mulayam removed Akhilesh as Samajwadi Party chairman and appointed Shivpal as chairman. Angered by this, Akhilesh sacked Shivpal and his supporters from their ministerial posts. He took over the party and was elected national chairman of the Socialist Party.
- In May 2017, he said there were martyrs from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India, but there were no martyrs from Gujarat. He indirectly mocked Narendra Modi. He said the BJP was demanding votes in the name of martyrs and nationalism but they did not consider anyone but themselves a nationalist.
- On May 30, 2014, Akhilesh was criticized by various sections of society for making controversial remarks. When a reporter asked him about the rising number of rape cases in Uttar Pradesh, he replied:
Aapko to khatra nahi hua na (but you are safe)”
- On August 2, 2018, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) issued a fine of Rs 10 lakh. Akhilesh Yadav has 6 lacs on him. He is accused of damaging the CM bungalow while vacating it for Yogi Adityanath. Public sector reports stated that air conditioners, bathroom fittings, garden lighting and many other fittings were missing from the bungalow. It also stated that Akhilesh spent Rs. 460 Crore Illegal Construction in Bungalows.
- On February 13, 2019, Akhilesh Yadav was traveling to Allahabad (now Prayagraj) and was intercepted by the Uttar Pradesh Police at Lucknow Airport. Yadav was told he would not be allowed to board the flight; the Allahabad district administration warned it could trigger a law and order crisis if he arrived. Angered by this, SP workers in Allahabad started protesting and beating people. Five SP workers and four policemen were seriously injured in the police lathi charge action.
- In 2013, Akhilesh Yadav was accused of illegal sand mining. On July 27, 2013, Akhilesh Yadav suspended Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Durga Shakti Nagpal; he took action against the sand mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.
- On November 5, 2014, Akhilesh Yadav said that he watched Rajkumar Hirani’s movie “PK” through downloading and he liked the movie so much that he made the movie tax-free in UP. His remarks were met with strong backlash. Since downloading movies is illegal, he was accused of piracy. Many people demanded that the I&B Ministry take strict action against Yadav.
- In June 2024, a video went viral in which he was seen threatening a journalist while interacting with a group of journalists. He turned to a reporter and said angrily:
Bhai, kyun kar rahe ho tum yeh? …Dusra ilaj karaye kya tumhara? (Brother, why are you doing this? Do you want me to treat you again?).
