The family of an Alabama man had some harsh words for him Thursday as he was sentenced for his role in the 2017 slaying of his ex-wife.
“Fuck you, I hope you rot,” one of Jason Starr’s daughters told him, News 4 reports.
Another daughter told Jason, “You’re useless,” according to a local news outlet’s report of the sentencing published Friday.
Jason, 50, and his brother Darrin Starr were sentenced to life in prison Thursday by a federal judge after they were found guilty of murdering Jason’s ex-wife Sara Starr in 2017, News 4, The Messenger and local Alabama newspaper the Enterprise Ledger reported. There is no parole in the federal court system.
Ledger also noted that the judge ordered Jason to pay a $25,000 fine.

The brothers were convicted by a jury of their murder-for-hire scheme in September 2023.

A jury found the men guilty of conspiring to kill Sara, a 38-year-old teacher at Harrand Creek Elementary School and mother of four, because Jason would not pay her the money a court awarded her in their divorce.
Jason from Coffee Springs, Alabama hired his brother Darin from Lakehills, Texas to kill Sara. Authorities said Jason gave his brother a motorcycle worth about $2,600 sometime between September and November 2017.

Sara was shot and killed twice at point-blank range in the early morning hours of November 27, 2017, as she left her home in Chancellor on her way to work.
“They caused harm that permeated the entire community,” Acting U.S. Attorney Johnathan S. Ross of Starr Brothers told News 4 in post-sentencing comments.
