But during his 21 days at the camp, Alan – who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the soap – formed bonds with fellow stars including Wag Coleen Rooney and McFly singer Danny Jones.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun in Australia on Sunday hours after leaving the jungle, Alan gives us his take on each of his campmates here.
COLEEN ROONEY

Alan hailed Coleen Rooney as a ‘very honest’ personCredit: Eroteme
“Coleen is just a very, very genuine person. You can say that she is a great mom. It has steel through it.
“He has a wit about him, very northern traditional values and morals, very similar to mine.
“She can be quite… I wouldn’t say shy, she can just be quite reserved until she knows it’s her time.”
THE HONORABLE RICHARD COLES

“Richard is probably the biggest surprise for me. I didn’t know much about Richard before.
“I’ve seen parts on Strictly and other things like that.
“You see his wicked humor and the things he says are sometimes quite outrageous.
“But he says it with that moustached tongue, with that twinkle in his eye, and yet, he has incredible stories.
“It was as if he had already lived four or five lives. He has these great stories and tells them in the most witty way.”
TULISA CONTOSTAVLOS

“Tulisa was obviously my boss and leader from the very beginning and we had our own little room at the top of the camp.
“We developed this really, really close relationship up there because Tulisa liked to get involved in the camp and talk, but she also liked her time.
“It was nice to talk together and it’s actually amazing to hear Tulisa’s stories.
“So it was really nice to meet Tulisa because there was a lot of time when it was just me and her talking at the Leaders’ Lodge, so it was very personal.”
DANNY JONES

“Danny was just brilliant. Danny has all these talents.
“Like, you know, for someone like me, I look at him and think, ‘Typical. He’s good looking, he’s a rock star, he plays the guitar, he sings amazingly, he writes songs, he’s funny’.
“He’s a guy you just want to go for a pint with every day. I could go for a beer with Danny any day of the week and I’d be happy, smiling and having a great night.”
GO MABUS
14
Oti Mabuse was praised for her ‘coddling’ in the Merits: Eroteme camp
“Oti is a smile for days, passion, love, just enthusiasm.
“A cuddle with Oti is like no cuddle you’ve ever had.
“She squeezes and she’s in and you can just feel that passion from Oti.”
JANE MOORE
14
Alan called The Sun columnist Jane Moore a ‘super hard worker’ at the Merits: Eroteme camp
“Jane is a super hard worker.
“In the morning, she was the first to get up to light the fire, a super hard worker.
“She kept talking about her daughters, who I know are here… that caring, motherly nature of hers, and that came through at camp.
“But also, she has amazing stories, super-intellectual, so you can have really great conversations with her.
Alan Halsall’s Coronation Street co-star reveals he has already agreed to do the next series of I’m a Celeb following the actor’s success in The Jungle
“I’m probably surprised, because you think of that journalistic talent that she has, ‘Oh, am I opening up too much?’
“But none of that was with Jane.”
MAURA HIGGINS

“Maura has that wicked sense of humor, that tongue, that whipping.
“We were shooting snipers at each other and we absolutely loved it.
“Probably like an older brother kind of thing, you know, I say something and she says something back. But her humor was fantastic.”
GK BARRY

Alan said he shared the same ‘humor’ with YouTube star GK BarryCredit: Eroteme
“GK is absolutely my humor.
“Where no one should go, GK goes. And we started.
“Given that GK was the youngest person in the camp, I believe that I got along well with her this year.
“But it was from the very beginning. I used to go out with stupid jokes all the time and she’d be like, ‘Oh my God, I have terrible dad jokes on me all the time’.
“And I think our humor completely brought us together.”
BARRY McGUIGAN

“Barry was brilliant.
“Barry’s stories, especially about boxing, are so intriguing.
“The amazing thing about Barry is that he has an amazing memory, like, ‘Yeah, back in 1987, I was in the second round and it was one minute, 30 seconds into the second round’ … and you’re like, ‘How do you remember of all these crazy statistics?’
“But his boxing career was so amazing.
“Even now, talking about his sons and his family — but his son is a coach now and he’s going through all that — it rivets someone like me as a sports fan.”
MELVIN ODOOM

“The best guy. Literally the coolest guy.
“Because there were so many big personalities there and things like that, Melvin was relaxed.
“Melvin was a guy who just sat in the corner and you could go and have a nice ten minute chat with Melvin and he was really relaxed.
“But what a cool guy. And I say, ‘Please teach me how to be cool.'”
DEAN McCULLOUGH

Despite their fight at camp, Alan praised Dean’s ‘energy and enthusiasm’Credit: Eroteme
“The only word I can use for Dean is energy.
“When he was in the camp, he was awake in the morning and sang, danced in the morning
“He was like, ‘BANG!’ He was like a battery. He charged everything.
“His energy and his enthusiasm for everything … when Dean left camp, you could feel it, because his energy was so high.”
