Severance Season 2 Trailer: Lumon Is 'Tightening the Leash' on Its Innies but They 'Fear No One' While Seeking Answers

It’s time to welcome a brand new season Severance pay.

The acclaimed Apple TV+ series returns for its second season on January 17 — and now the official trailer has been released. Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus and Christopher Walken return for the new installment.

The trailer, released Saturday, Dec. 7 during a panel show at CCXP24 in São Paulo, opens with Milchick (Tillman) addressing Mark (Scott) during a one-on-one meeting, saying, “Mr. Scout, I know you. I’m still weighing whether to return to Lumon.”

“But the Mark I met … is happy,” adds Milchick, who is next seen hunting down Mark in the Lumon office. Mark then tries to release the Lumon board, but Milchick catches up to him in time to stop the action, pulling the speaker cord.

“What you all did was one of the most painful moments in the history of this company,” Milchick continues in the voiceover. “But you four have become known as the face of severance reform.”

After a newspaper article appears with the headline “‘INNIES’ BLOW THE WHISTLE,” Dylan (Cherry) asks his colleagues Mark, Helly (Lower) and Irving (Turturro), “Okay, so we’re not in trouble?”

“I don’t think so,” said Mark. “Milchick said we were famous.”

The Innies then meet in a discreet, dimly lit location to discuss what they saw when Dylan managed to wake up Mark, Helly and Irving’s Innies in the real world. Then Mark reveals, “My Outie’s wife died a few years ago. Except the wife is Mrs. Casey.”

“So what are you going to do?” Helly asks before Mark replies, “I’ve got to get her out of here.”

As the gang prepares to uncover the truth, the trailer then shows Mark spying on one of his bosses, Mrs. Cobel (Arquette), in her home. Mrs. Cobel tries to drive away, but Mark pulls up in front of her car to stop her.

“Why did you do that? What is it about?” Mark yells, pressing up against Harmony’s car, before asking a question about his “late” wife Gemma, aka Mrs. Casey. “Do you know anything about Gemma?”

But Mrs. Cobel teases her: “Mark, the honeymoon won’t end for you.” Still, as Helly notes, the Innies “fear no one” as scenes are shown of the group racing around to discover the truth.

“If we let this happen to Mrs. Casey,” Mark tells a group of Lumon workers, “who’s going to step in when it happens to us?”

Milchick warns that he’s “tightening the leash” and as the trailer ends, the supervisor eerily says “goodbye” to Mark before closing the elevator door behind him.

Severance paycreated by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle, premieres on Apple TV+ in February 2022. It follows the dark aftermath of Lumon Industries, a biotech corporation, which requires its employees to undergo “severing” surgery, severing their consciousness in order to that their personal and professional lives do not become intertwined.

But one employee, Mark Scout in particular, begins to uncover the real mystery behind what is happening to them.

The psychological thriller was renewed for a second season that April.

Since the news of the renewal announcement, several top stars have been added to the cast: Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

Ahead of the Apple TV+ premiere, Scott opened up about the filming Severance pay helped him cope with the death of his mother. ( Parks and Recreation The alum, whose mother died in 2020 after a battle with ALS, plays a character grieving the death of his wife.)

“When we were doing the series, I was grieving myself,” he previously told Insider. “I found myself in New York, kind of alone. Since there was a pandemic, I was either sitting alone in the apartment or I was on set and working. And so I’m grieving, I finished it through the series.”
