Alan MacMasters was a Scottish scientist, inventor and industrialist. He is credited with creating the first electric bread toaster. His invention paved the way for Charles Strite to invent the automatic pop-up toaster in 1919.

Alan MacMasters was born on March 20, 1865 to Marie and Buddy MacMasters in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He is known as Alan Alexander MacMasters.

He died at the age of 65 due to heart failure. He studied at the University of Edinburgh in the Department of Natural Philosophy.
