Ujjwala Tiwari married Bipin Sharma when she was 17 years old. However, Ujjawala and Bipin decided to separate when Ujjawala became pregnant with their son Siddharth. It was reportedly their collective decision. She met ND Tiwari in 1968 at her father’s house at 3 Krishna Menon Marg. The two began dating in 1977. In the late 1970s, she became pregnant with Tiwari’s son.

She had created a ruckus at the Tiwari residence in Lucknow. According to Ujjwala, she was stopped by ND Tiwari’s OSD (Officer on Special Service) from meeting ND Tiwari at the gate. After the incident, she joined the strike and claimed that the OSD conspired not to allow her to see ND Tiwari.
