Alka Lamba joined the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in 1994 and was appointed as the convener of Girls, Delhi State. In 1995, she won the election for the post of President of Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). In 1996, Alka Lamba was appointed NSUI All India Convenor for Girls and in 1997, she was appointed All India NSUI President. In 2002, Arka became the general secretary of the All India Mahila Congress Party. In 2003, she contested the Delhi Assembly elections.
