America Ferrera is the mother of son Sebastian Piers Williams and daughter Lucia Marisol Williams with longtime husband Ryan Piers Williams.
“I feel like being a mother has given me energy and focus,” she said Access in February 2020. “Having kids—and especially kids who I hope identify with their cultural roots—all of that seems so much more important.”
Ferrera became a parent for the first time when she welcomed her son in May 2018 and again during the COVID-19 pandemic when her daughter was born in May 2020.
The Superstore star has shot some of her biggest projects while also taking care of her children, including the blockbuster Barbie film, and she credits Williams with helping her do it. Whether they want to follow in her footsteps or have different dreams, Ferrera’s top priority is for her children to know that they have her support no matter what.

“I just want them to always feel free to express themselves playfully and in a way that makes them happy,” she told PEOPLE.
Ferrera and Williams keep their children’s faces off social media to protect their privacy, but that doesn’t mean she won’t share a sizzling selfie while spending time with them.
“The way they see me and look at me and love me… I guess they’re reflecting back to me the beauty they see in me,” she added. “Being with them always makes me feel so loved and beautiful.”

Ferrera and Williams welcomed their son, Sebastian “Baz” Piers Williams, on May 29, 2018.
“When 2 becomes 3 … Welcome Sebastian Piers Williams – aka Baz! Mom, dad and baby are happy, healthy and completely in love!” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post featuring her boy’s toes.
The Ugly Betty cast member returned to work about three months after giving birth. “My son went everywhere with me,” she told PEOPLE in December 2020. “I went back to work when he was only 10 weeks old and I would put him in my hands like a camera. I’d say, ‘You hold him . . . I have to go. here.’ ”
It wasn’t long before Sebastian became the star of the show, with Ferrera sharing updates on his life as he grew up. “A lot of my proudest moments now are with my little guy,” Ferrera told PEOPLE in March 2019. “He’s doing something new every day … he’s not going to give up, which I love. That makes me proud.”

She also admitted that she would do anything to make him laugh. “I get down on the ground and make funny faces and now my monkey sounds are a real fan favorite at Baz’s so I do them quite often,” Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants added alum.
As Sebastian gets older, Ferrera finds new activities to enjoy with him.
“He has to go into my bathroom and we take all my makeup off and I let him put on his makeup and I do my makeup,” she shared of their “weekend tradition” in November 2021. “Really, we just draw and have a lot of crazy squiggles on our faces. .. [it’s] It’s fun for us to share that, and it’s already a form of expression and that’s what I want it to be for them.”

Ferrera and Williams celebrated the birth of their daughter Lucia Marisol Williams on May 4, 2020.
“LUCIA MARISOL WILLIAMS arrived on May 4th to give me a hug and a kiss for Mother’s Day,” Ferrera wrote alongside a now-deleted picture of her baby’s hand. “Mom, Dad and Big Brother are ready to welcome her bright light into our family.”
In his own post, Williams called Lucia “the most gorgeous little creature” and shared that “everyone is healthy and happy!”
The couple faced challenges after having their second child amid the COVID-19 pandemic, including not being able to rely on loved ones for help. Nevertheless, it brought Ferrera, her husband and their children closer together.

“I could never have imagined that we would grow a family under these circumstances,” she told PEOPLE of welcoming Lucia. “But it’s also been wonderful because it’s made us really spend time as a family of four and really get into our groove of just being our own little family… I think there’s going to be a lot of great memories of this time.”
One of the hardest parts for Ferrera was getting her daughter used to meeting new people.
“Whenever there is an opportunity for a new face, [Lucia] she just bursts into tears,” she shared. “She doesn’t know what to do with new faces, so hopefully she’s young enough that all of this will be fixed before it really starts to stick to her.”
Besides giving him plenty of time to bond, quarantine seemed to make it easier for Baz to adjust to his new sibling.
“We were home with him for so many weeks before she came that I think he was actually relieved that our attention wasn’t on him,” Ferrera told host Seth Meyers. Late Night with Seth Meyers. “He said, ‘Focus one more time, Mom and Dad.’ So he was actually great and didn’t throw anything out at her, which I guess is a good sign.”
