The ‘Saltburn’ star welcomed his first-born son in August 2022

Meet the boy Barry Keoghan.

The Saltburn star and Golden Globe nominee is the father of a boy named Brando, whom he welcomed in August 2022 with his ex-girlfriend, Alyson Sandro.

The Lords of the Air the actor has been vocal about his love for Brando since he was born, sharing heartfelt posts on Instagram and opening up about his son in interviews. “I just want to go up there and hug him,” he once said mid-interview when he spoke to POPSUGAR in October 2022.

Keoghan’s love of acting partly inspired the meaning behind Brando’s name. However, the movie star — who won an Academy Award for his role as Dominic in Banshee of Inisherin 2023 — said he would never make Brando act when he got old.

Although Keoghan and Sandro are no longer together, the actor praised her as a mother. “She’s done a great job and she’s an amazing mother,” he said GQ in an interview from January 2024.

He is Barry’s first and only child

In August 2022, Keoghan and his then-girlfriend Alyson Sandro welcomed Brando together. Their boy is the actor’s first and only son.

Brando was born when Keoghan was filming Saltburn. In the midst of a busy schedule, the actor took one day off to be with his son. In an interview with GQopened up about the limited time off he was given before he had to return to filming.

“They gave me the day off,” Keoghan revealed. “Well done to them! Day off, then straight to night shoots and night feeding — boom!”

Although it was quite a busy time, the actor said it was all worth it.

“It was probably the best time of my life, to be honest. Having a boy and running a movie. It was the best time of my life, I have to say.”

His name has a special meaning

Brando’s name is significant to Keoghan, who explained the meaning when speaking to GQ. It’s no surprise to the movie star that he turned to his love of acting for inspiration.

“Brando Keoghan. Imagine that, for God’s sake!” he told the outlet. “I set him up. Brando Keoghan, the pianist. Apparently I love Marlon Brando, but just, yeah—for a first name, I thought it was pretty cool. To have Brando in your name—hell, man!”

“He’s got a lot to live up to, that kid. But he’s going to live up to it. He’s got to have that leather jacket and rock star attitude, you know what I mean? He’ll have a motorcycle by the time he’s 12, I mean.”

Barry dedicated an Oscar nomination to him

When Keoghan earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Dominic in Martin McDonagh Banshee of Inisherin in the category of best supporting actor, he dedicated that honor to his little boy.

After learning the news of the nomination, the proud dad shared a sweet tribute on his Instagram story. “That’s for you, Brando,” he wrote alongside a photo of the five Best Supporting Actor nominees. “Daddy loves you ❤️.”

Since becoming a father, Keoghan has been vocal about how his son motivates and inspires him. “I feel the responsibility, I feel a lot of pressure, which is good,” he said GQ about becoming a parent.

“And I can’t forget about the little boy. He’s beautiful you know, he’s crazy, but when he looks at you, you feel like the most important person in the world. That’s the effect he has on me,” he continued. “He smiles at you and you’re like, ‘Wow. You’re smiling at me like that? I don’t deserve it, but thanks anyway’.”

He will not be pushed into acting

When he spoke to POPSUGAR in October 2022, Keoghan said he was “not going to” push his son into acting. “If he wanted to become an actor, you know, I’m all for it,” he told the publication.

Although he was a new dad at the time, Keoghan thought a lot about how he would like to raise his first child. “You don’t want to brainwash them into doing something they don’t want to do,” he said. “I think it’s exciting to see where he ventures.”
