Eva Mendes Is Not Sure Whether She'd Ever Return to Acting: 'Kind of Felt Like I Did It'

Eva Mendes has not completely closed the door to an acting comeback, but she is in no rush.

Sitting down with George Stephanopoulos for an interview that aired Good morning America Tuesday, September 17 Desi, Mami and endless worries when asked if she would ever act again, the author said: “I don’t know.”

“If there are interesting roles,” Mendes, 50, said, explaining, “I went when it was, 10 years ago… I kind of felt like I did it, you know?”

I said, ‘I just worked with Ryan Gosling, who is, like, the best,’” she joked about her longtime boyfriend, whom she first met in 2013. A place behind the pines and shares two daughters with: Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8.

“It was such a high point in my career to work with him and what we created together that I thought, ‘This is a good time to, like, Seinfeld that and just get out.’ So who knows?” Mendes added, possibly referring to their 2014 film The Lost Riverwhich marked the directorial debut of Gosling, 43.

Mendes established herself as a movie star through roles opposite Denzel Washington in Training day (2001), Paul Walker in 2 Fast 2 Fierce (2003), Will Smith in Snatch (2005), Nicolas Cage in Ghost rider (2007) and more.

She last appeared on the screen in 2014 The Lost River. But in October 2022, Mendes clarified on Instagram that “I never stopped acting.”

She then added: “I wanted to be at home with my babies and luckily my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting.”

“Also,” Mendes continued, “I wasn’t excited about the stereotypical roles that were being offered to me at the time. Especially after working on LOST RIVER — that was a dream project. That’s hard to follow.”

In her GMA in the conversation with Stephanopoulos, 63, Mendes also discussed her new children’s book Desi, Mami and endless worries.

“It’s a friendship story about this little girl named Desi and her brain,” said the mother of two. “And Desi has these endless worries — I do, too — and she’s trying to work with her brain to make sure he’s not abusing her by sending her all these negative thoughts, and that it’s like a BFF for her.”

“And that’s what that relationship is about,” Mendes added.
