All About Ewan McGregor’s Oldest Daughter Clara McGregor

Ewan McGregor and Clara McGregor are both in the entertainment industry.

Ewan and his first wife, French designer Eve Mavrakis, welcomed their first daughter, Clara, in February 1996. Clara was born shortly before the premiere of the film trainspotting, which launched Ewan to stardom.

Although her father was in the spotlight, Clara’s life was largely kept out of the public eye during her adolescence.

“[My dad] he shielded us a lot from the public eye; this was his world, his career, and we had nothing to do with it, and rightly so,” Clara said at the Bluebella Lingerie 2021 event.

Clara was initially hesitant to pursue acting like her father. “I was 12 years old and all I was asked was, ‘Are you going to do what your dad does?’ ” she said Playboy 2018. “I protested. I said, ‘No! I will not do what he does! I will be behind the camera.’ ”

Clara soon started her acting career, and now she is acting in a drama film Bleeding Love with his famous father.

“It’s rare that you get to spend that much time with your parents as an adult, so it was really special,” she told PEOPLE. “I’ve always admired my dad as an actor, and acting with him showed me how good he is at what he does.”

Clara was born in England five months before Ewan’s big break

Clara was born in England on February 4, 1996 to Ewan and his ex-wife Mavrakis. She was born about five months before the premiere of the Oscar-nominated film Train spotting.

“I held Clara in my lap like a baby at the press conference in Cannes Train spottingMcGregor said The Hollywood Reporter in a 2021 profile. “Ultimately, through all that craziness and that time, I had that kind of safety line through my life, which was my job and my family, that I could hold on to.”

She is the eldest of the four children Ewan shares with Mavrakis. In 2001, she became an older sister Esther, and later her two sisters Jamyan and Anouk, who were both adopted.

In 2021, Clara announced the news of Laurie Ewan and his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s son in an Instagram post.

“Welcome to the world baby brother ❤️ congrats to my dad and Mary – this is the greatest gift,” she captioned a series of photos of her and Laurie.

Her childhood was kept away from the public eye

Growing up in her father’s shadow, Clara had a rather “sheltered” upbringing.

“[My dad] he shielded us a lot from the public eye; this was his world, his career, and we had nothing to do with it, and rightfully so,” said Clara at the Bluebella event. “The only thing I had to deal with was kids at school saying, ‘Your dad is Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ and that was fine, and I wasn’t thrown into the public before I made my own decision to I put it there. ”

At the moment, Clara hopes that her younger siblings will be able to grow up without public pressure.

“I hope they can grow up in a world where they don’t feel like they have to look a certain way or be something that doesn’t feel natural to them,” she said. Stare.

She graduated from New York University

Clara originally attended NYU to earn a degree in photography. However, she quickly realized that she wanted to try her hand at acting.

Her parents’ divorce was hard to bear

After 22 years of marriage, Ewan and Mavrakis announced their separation in 2017 after pictures of the Scottish actor and his Fargo Costar Winstead’s kisses were made public. Nine months after Ewan filed for divorce, Clara called Winstead “trash” in a photo of the actress shared by a fan.

In the 2018 interview TimeClara admitted that her comment “wasn’t the most mature way to handle things.”

“There was a lot of preparation and a lot of things that I had to deal with – not to make excuses or anything like that – but yeah, it wasn’t my best moment,” she said. At the time, Clara, who had not met Winstead, added: “I have my mum’s back in this – totally. Not only as a daughter but also as a woman.”

Ewan later married Winstead in April 2022 in a “small wedding for family and close friends,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.

Before devoting herself more to acting, Clara started her career in the modeling world. She signed a contract with Wilhelmina Models in 2017 and continued to pose for Playboy and partner with Bluebell for their 2021 Christmas campaign.

“I was afraid of being separated from my parents,” she said at the Bluebella 2021 event. “I had general anxieties and fears, usually little childhood things like being afraid of the dark, but mine were more extreme.”

Clara later opened up about her struggle with Xanax addiction in an Instagram post in 2019, revealing that she had been going to a rehab center to seek guidance.

“I was so ashamed of my addiction, my anxiety and depression. I was ashamed of the abuse I allowed to happen to me,” she wrote. “I didn’t know there was a way to get better. But there is. Help yourself so that others can help you. And never be ashamed to talk about it.”

After sharing the post, Ewan expressed his support for his daughter.

“I fully support her in every way,” he said The Hollywood Reporter. “It is absolutely an individual, personal matter. And Clara is great — I support her 100 percent.”

Clara and Ewan star in the drama bloody love which highlights a “poignant, emotional tale of healing family wounds through reconnection,” according to a synopsis from its distributor, Vertical. They play the roles of an estranged father-daughter duo who are dealing with problems from their past.

“It was something special [Ewan] to be part of a film that I also produced and put together,” Clara told PEOPLE of the “incredible experience.”

And while some might think the film reflects Clara and Ewan’s real-life relationship, Clara said “the characters were their people — they weren’t us.”
